March 21: [When You Find a] Friend

March 21: [When You Find a] Friend

When you moved to be next to me because I needed a friend, when you dragged me off to show me something you knew I’d like, when you teased me and spent time with me to make me smile…

When you held me in your arms, when you listened to my rants, when you told me everything was going to be alright…

When you believed in me when I couldn’t find it in myself to, when you have faith in me because you said you knew me, when you were so confident in me even when all I had were doubts floating in my head…

When you scolded me for something I did wrong, when I crossed the line, when I knew I was not right…

When you bluntly told me what I needed to hear, when you told me the truth, when you didn’t sugar coat the lies…

When you made sure I ate and drank enough, when you checked in on my health, when you were all over the place trying to get me to feel better…

When you gave me a shoulder to rest on, when you lent me a hand to hold, when you were the friend who stood by my side…

When you wiped the tears from my eyes, when you healed up all the bruises and cuts, when you took care of my fragile body parts…

When you were there for me when no one else was, when you pushed aside your own needs to help me out, when you did every thing you could to bring sunlight into my eyes and warmth into my heart…

When you forgave me for my lies, when you took my flaws as beauty, when you tried to understand my situation and where I was standing at, when you taught me what I needed to learn…

When you helped me realize what was hiding between the lines, when you showed me what I did not originally see, when you moved the dust from my eyes and cleaned my lens…

Maybe I hadn’t said it then but…thank you. for everything.

We dream. We fantasize. We picture the future. Why.

We imagine new possibilities. We make up stories. We build up fake creatures. Why.

We wonder what’s beyond the horizons. We question what else there is. We strive for new answers. Why.

We believe in this greater person. We pass down tall tales to the next generations. We create new worlds in our mind. Why.

We create these creatures out of mist. We bend nature to be more than what it really is. Why.

March 18: Fight

March 18: Fight

Fight. Punch. Kick. Yell. Sure.

Scream. Cry. Whine. Complain. Great.

Ask. Wonder. Beg. Hate. Wonderful.

Where does it all lead us? What are we trying to achieve? What are we trying to do? What is the point in all of this?

There is always something. But we don’t always know what that something is.

But we still try to achieve it. We still strive to become something even though we don’t always know what we are becoming.

So how do you know if that something is ‘good’ or ‘bad’? You don’t. Surprise.

Hiding Doesn’t Feel Right

Hiding Doesn’t Feel Right

A silver band rests on my finger with a heart cut and three words printed: True Love Waits. A black leather string with a purple stone pendant dangling hangs from around my neck. Memories run through my mind and feelings run through my body.

I remember what it felt like to be in your arms as you held me tight. I remember what it felt like to have your lips pressed against mine. I remember what it felt like to have your hand grip on mine. I remember what it felt like what it was just us when everything froze, even time.

I remember the countless late night talks. I remember all the cute little moments. I remember our dates and our times.

I remember us.

And I miss us.

Something Else

Something Else

Alec stared down at his hands as he sat on the curb of the house. Though there was a party rumbling behind him as people cheered with joy, he didn’t want to be there and all he felt was broken and lost. He didn’t know what he was doing, where he was going, etc. He didn’t know anything.

“Hey, are you okay?” He looked up behind him and weakly smiled at his girlfriend. “Still trying to figure it out?”

“I know it wasn’t him.” He mumbled, knowing no one believed him. “It was something else.”

“The police said it was a normal murder. They got the guy locked up now. It’s time to let it go. This party is suppose to help you get your mind off of this…not so you can come out here and sit by yourself with your thoughts.” She sighed.

“No. It’s not. I know it wasn’t him. The killer is still out there. And this party? It wasn’t my idea. It was yours. I don’t need this. I need to figure out who, or WHAT, killed my parents.”

Her tired eyes looked back at him, filled with worry. “I can’t do this with you again…Come inside.”

“I will later…maybe.”

She paused behind him but didn’t say another word. She was tired. He was too.

Minutes passed and soon hours flashed by. Then a brief shadow that caught Alec’s eye. Something about it was different. He was suddenly intrigued but quickly brushed it off.

“I know what happened to your parents.” A girl’s voice came in a whisper right by his ear.

He turned quickly, but there was no one there. When he looked up, a girl’s figure stood in the dim light just beyond the walls.

“You need to trust your heart. Follow me.” The voice came again but she hadn’t opened her mouth.

He followed. Quickly a walk turned into a jog that escalated into a sprint down the dark ally to the end of the park behind his house.

“Who are you?” Alec asked cautiously.

“Mom and Dad never told you about me. They never told you about who they were or where they came from. They never told you a lot of things, like who was coming to take their lives. That’s why I’m here now to give you the right information…and to protect you from the ones who did the murder.”

He couldn’t say anything. Who was this girl? Was she crazy?

Her blonde hair flowed in the light breeze, the black tips flicking in the air. Her skin glowed in the moonlight showing off a stunning drawing on her forearm: an angel wing.

How did she know his name?

“You are not insane. You are right. The death of our parents was not an ordinary murder that the people around you are use to, but that’s all they know. We have to do this on our own because they will never understand. Do you understand?”

“Who are you?” He asked once again.

The girl smiled and jumped down gracefully from the pillar to face Alec. “Hi. My name is Violet. I’m five years older than you. I use to be by your side but I was taken away to train when you were just one. I’m your older sister.”

“How? Train? What?” He stumbled on his words.

“I know this is a lot to take in but I need you to do it quickly. This is real. This is happening. I am here. This is not your imagination. This is not a dream. You need to get it around your head that there is a battle coming and you are standing in the middle of it.”

Apologize. Sorry. Please.

Apologize. Sorry. Please.

I can’t hold you until your feel better.

I can’t be lying next to you when you wake in the middle of the night with fear.

I’m sorry…

I’m sorry I hurt you. I’m sorry I betrayed you. I’m sorry I broke your trust. I’m sorry for all the pain I put you through.

I will make it up to you. I will come back to you. I will keep my promises. I will be by your side once again one day.

Please don’t doubt me. Please don’t hide from me. Please don’t push me away. Please give me another chance. Please…let me try to earn your trust again.

I’m sorry…

I can’t tell you what goes through my mind right now.

I can’t explain to you every thing that is happening…but please. Don’t give up on me.
